Resources are used in this game as a means to:

  • Give the player currencies to collect and spend.

  • Give a compelling context to show growth and progression.

  • Force the player back into Town from the dungeon.

Resources can be defined into two categories: Management and Currencies.

Management Resources

  • Stamina

  • Experience Points

  • Inventory Space

Currency Resources

  • Treasure

  • Building Materials

  • Skill Points

Management Resources

These are resources that are used in dungeon delving that’s not a currency. They can be used and replenished through gameplay.

Stamina

  • This resource is effectively the player characters health in the dungeon.

  • It’s exclusive to the dungeon and isn’t used while in town.

  • It represents the players ability to do actions and to withstand attacks in the dungeon.

Stamina is used/spent when:

  • Opening treasure chests

  • Using an attack at an enemy

  • Taking damage from enemies

  • Engaging a Prisoner to free them

  • Engaging a trap to disarm it

  • Setting off a trap

Stamina isn’t used when:

  • Moving around the dungeon

  • Encountering an enemy

  • Picking up loose treasure

  • Picking up building resources

  • Inventory management

  • Picking up the exit key

  • Using the dungeon exit

What happens when Stamina reaches zero?

  • The player character faints and cannot progress in the dungeon.

  • The player is returned back to town.

  • Some percent ( % ) of their treasure and building material currencies will be lost as a penalty for fainting.

  • There are no penalties to experience.

How is Stamina Replenished?

  • It’s automatically refilled to full when entering the town from exiting the dungeon.

  • Some items can be used to replenish an amount of Stamina.

Experience Points (XP)

  • This resource is gained to generate a skill point.

  • Once the player has gained enough XP they earn a skill point. Then the amount needed for the next skill point resets.

How are experience points earned?

  • Defeating Enemies

  • Freeing Prisoners

  • Unlocking Chests

  • Disarming Traps

  • Completing Town Requests

  • Constructing Buildings

Inventory Space

  • Inventory space is a resource that imposes a limit of how much you can take out of the dungeon.

  • Its where resources and items are stored on the player character.

  • The amount of space can be upgraded with skill points.

  • Some resources such as treasure do not contribute to inventory space.

Currency Resources

These are resources that are collected by the player and spent to obtain something.

Treasure

  • Is a currency used to purchase things back in the town.

  • It’s collected in the dungeon.

It’s collected by:

  • Opening Chests

  • Defeating Enemies

  • Freeing Prisoners

  • Disarming Traps

  • Collecting loose treasure around the dungeon

It’s spent on:

  • Purchasing items

  • Constructing buildings

Building Materials

  • Is a currency used to construct buildings and items for the town.

It’s collected by:

  • Opening chests.

  • Collecting loose materials around the dungeon through exploration.

Skill Points

  • Skill points are earned when the player has either:

    • Earned enough experience points (XP) to generate a point.

    • Done something specific in the dungeon that warranted earning a skill point on its own.

    • Completed an objective in the town that earned them a skill point.

Skill Points can be spent to:

  • Increase stamina - Allowing for longer treks in the dungeon.

  • Improve attributes to make enemy and prisoner encounters easier.

  • Increase inventory space, allowing more resources to be trekked back to town.

  • Allow the player to take new actions in the dungeon that open up exploration opportunities.
