Dungeon Puzzles

What are Dungeon Puzzles?

Puzzles represent key interactions with other characters and objects found within the dungeon. Including:

  • Freeing Prisoners

  • Battling Enemies

  • Disarming Traps

  • Opening Chests

  • Opening Locked Doors

Puzzle Encounter Categories

There are four different types of encounters that’ll result in the player solving puzzles.

Prisoner Freeing Puzzles

  • Puzzles themed around removing layers of bondage and disarming devices that are teasing and molesting the prisoner.

  • Multiple puzzles to complete. Each puzzle completed is a piece of bondage removed.

  • Once all bondage has been removed the prisoner is freed.

  • A freed prisoner is teleported out of the dungeon after being freed. They’ll welcome the player back in town.

Enemy Engagement Puzzles

  • Puzzles themed around taking turns against an enemy character.

  • These puzzles will have some time-based tension to them.

  • A player turn involves them trying to solve a puzzle. If successful an attack animation plays that binds up the enemy.

  • An enemy turn involves them making an attack and draining the players stamina.

  • The engagement ends when either:

    • The players stamina has reached zero.

    • The enemy has been fully bound and defeated.

  • If the enemy is defeated, it’s removed from the dungeon floor and the player gets rewards.

Trap Disarming Puzzles

  • Puzzles themed around disarming a mechanical device with a set number of turns/steps.

  • If the puzzle is completed within a set number of turns then the trap is disarmed and the encounter ends.

  • If the puzzle isn’t completed within a set number of turns/steps then the trap activates and drains stamina from the player.

  • The engagement ends when the trap is either disarmed or activates.

Locked Chest Opening Puzzles

  • Puzzles themed around disarming a mechanical device.

  • If the puzzle is completed within a set number of turns then the chest is opened.

  • If the puzzle isn’t completed within a set number of turns/steps then more stamina is used to replenish additional steps.

  • The engagement ends when either the chest is opened or the player leaves the chest still locked.

Bypassing Puzzles

  • Players will have the ability to bypass puzzles in:

    • Enemy Encounters

    • Freeing Prisoners

    • Disarming Traps

  • It comes at an additional cost to their stamina.

  • This extra stamina cost acts as a deterrent to use it more then a few critical times during each dungeon run.

  • Contextually and narratively this is the player character using up more of their bind and unbind magic to brute force the situation.
